Blog # 8

I have not participated in any type o library instruction at all. But I do remember I do a volunteer work at the library and one of my teachers asks me to provide instruction in the media center. The media center has books, DVD’s, and TV. In orientation I explain what they can on books, cds, DVDs, and newspaper.  You can spread words out by giving out flyers, social net, and word of mouths.  I work in the counseling office and I interact with a lot of students daily. It will be really helpful for the students to know that they can access materials and information. Some students rather use Internet search engine to search about people and information that require them to do an assignment. It is fast and easy because you don’t have to type in all this information just to get to the online databases. I feel that the librarian need to give out more workshops and also posting flyer around the campus to let the students aware of what is going on .
The librarian should provide information on the library home page, which way the students will know what is happening at the campus. Most of the students are not aware of what happening at the campus because there is no flyers, not even any enough any information provide. So the students don’t know what is being offer at the college. The library has a lot to offer to the students if we would just take our time to offer workshops. Some students might not know if there is a media center at the library.  I feel students should know how to find most information on the computer because everything is being provided if we should just take the time to explore the option of using the library computers. Enter the information into the computer is very easy, but when trying to find the books on the shelves it make it harder for the patrons to search for.

I think the library should have workshop once a week, have accessible materials available online to the patrons.

  1. I think using flyers and having workshops are a great way to get the word around. I have never had any formal library instruction either (other than taking a few of these classes), so it must have been very helpful for you to be able to volunteer in a library and get hands on experience.

  2. Yes I also like the idea of flyer's and info on the library home page. A little knowledge of how to navigate the Library and its resources would bring more patrons.

  3. The library offers such a wealth of information, and I think it's too bad that not enough students know about it or know how to access this wealth of information. Your idea of posting information on the college's website, perhaps a library blog, is a great way to announce upcoming events such as workshops and news about the library. For students who don't often use the computer, posting flyers around campus is a great method to keeping students informed.

  4. I agree that workshops are important but i think having people show up to them is the difficult part...unfortunately
Maybe if they are past of a class or just a quick 10 minute orientation type thing they would be good
